TEXT TIDY
About Text Tidy
Text Tidy is a small, single-purpose web tool for cleaning up text. It does one job — a set of predictable text transformations, performed in your browser — and it is deliberately not trying to become anything larger.
What Text Tidy is
Text Tidy is a browser-based utility that applies nine text transformations to whatever you paste into it: four case conversions, spacing cleanup, blank-line removal, exact duplicate removal, alphabetical sorting and line reversal. It also counts characters, words and lines as you type. There is no account, no upload and no document library.
The tool is built for the small, repetitive text jobs that otherwise turn into manual work: a list pasted out of a spreadsheet with padding on every row, a column copied from a PDF with line breaks in the middle of sentences, a set of headings with inconsistent capitalization, a mailing list that has picked up duplicates across two exports.
Why it exists
Most text utilities online ask for an upload before they will do anything, which is a strange trade for a job that a browser can do locally in milliseconds. Text Tidy was built to remove that trade. Everything happens on your device, the input panel is never modified, and there is nothing to sign up for.
The second reason is predictability. Text tools tend to hide their rules, which makes it hard to know whether the result is trustworthy. Here the rules are published: the How it works page states exactly what each action does, and each guide explains the conventions and the traps in the situation it covers. If a transformation produces a result you did not expect, the documentation should tell you why.
Who builds it
Text Tidy is built and maintained by ShengFeng, an independent software developer. It is a personal project, not a company product: there is no team, no venture funding and no institutional affiliation. The same person writes the code, writes the guides and answers the email.
Being independent has one practical consequence worth stating plainly. The tool has no commercial interest in the text you put into it, and no incentive to encourage you to upload more of it. The design reflects that: the editor is local, and the guides explain how to do the job well rather than how to do more of it here.
How it is funded
The site is free and has no paid tier. Hosting is inexpensive because the site is static and the computation happens on your device rather than on a server. If advertising is served on the site, it is clearly disclosed in the privacy policy along with how to opt out of personalized ads. Advertising never affects what the tool does or which results it produces.
How to reach us
Corrections and bug reports are genuinely welcome, and they are the fastest way to improve the site. Write to citysoulsound@gmail.com with the page address, your browser name and a short description. The contact page lists what to include and what to leave out.
Limits
The tool is intentionally narrow, and it is worth being clear about the boundary. It does not generate facts, rewrite meaning, translate text, summarize, or claim to replace an editor. It changes only the text you supply, in ways that are documented and deterministic. Automatic formatting cannot recognize every proper name, acronym, house style or language convention, so the output should always be reviewed before it is published or submitted.
